Attitude & Heading Reference Systems (AHRS)
Attitude and Heading Reference Systems (AHRS), are specialized devices designed to provide accurate attitude measurements, including roll, pitch, heading and heave of the vehicle or object they are linked to. They are also known as Motion Reference Units (MRU) in the marine industry.
Explore how our AHRS systems are used across diverse applications, including maritime navigation, hydrography, aviation and all the fields where precise and reliable orientation and heading information are essential.

Advantages of choosing our attitude and heading reference systems
Our AHRS solutions are built on Micro-ElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) technology, integrating gyrometers and accelerometers to achieve a compact design and low power consumption without compromising on accuracy. Each unit undergoes rigorous dynamic calibration across its full operating temperature range, ensuring consistent performance in real-world conditions.
We have engineered state-of-the-art algorithms to leverage the precision of the hardware, delivering consistently accurate orientation data. With extensive field experience, we’ve refined these algorithms to operate effectively in diverse environments and dynamic scenarios, optimizing performance through an extensive choice of motion profiles.
Despite this technical sophistication, our AHRS products are designed for simplicity. Setup and configuration can be completed in just a few minutes, making them accessible for various users and applications. Equipped with state-of-the-art algorithms, these sensors provide robust performance in dynamic environments, ensuring reliable operation even in GNSS-denied conditions. With easy integration, minimal setup requirements, and a proven track record of precision, SBG Systems’ AHRS sensors are the ideal choice for demanding projects requiring compact, high-performance solutions.
Find out more about other motion and navigation sensors
Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) and Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) are key technologies used to determine the position, orientation, and motion of an object without relying on external signals. An IMU is a sensor that measures acceleration and angular rate using accelerometers and gyroscopes. When combined with algorithms and, optionally, GNSS data, an INS uses this information to calculate the object’s trajectory in real time. These systems are essential for navigation in environments where GNSS is unavailable or unreliable, supporting applications in aerospace, autonomous vehicles, precision guided munitions, marine operations, and more.
